The anticipation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
